Unfamiliar Familiars

Illustration Series

Unfamiliar Familiars is a series of illustrations that imagines and considers the presence and energy of national animals as familiars that assist witches in magic for good and selfless purposes. By stepping away from the popular associations of black cats and crows, this series aims to break down stereotypes about witches and encourage respect for witchcraft in its diverse forms, as it continues to exist in many cultures around the world today.

This yearlong project is my OCAD University Illustration Thesis. Unfamiliar Familiars consists of a unique variety of work for many purposes (editorial and book illustration, advertising, packaging, and merchandise).
